Laszlo Systems,
I have a few questions about your product if you don't mind. My
application would be for a data acquisition system real time display
in
a web page. The acquisition system is a small box with a network
port,
a few LED's, and some terminal blocks for digital and analog I/O.
Like
some printers, the configuration and status are done with an embedded
http server running under a RTOS on the acquisition box. Currently, I
use AJAX calls every 2 seconds to simulate a real time display in the
web page. I have been asked to consider a Flash GUI since it may look
and respond better. I don't want to get in bed with Adobe though
because it is costly, closed source, and they seem (so far) like a
pain
to deal with.
With that in mind, how can OpenLaszlo help?
We are open source. Laszlo Systems, Inc. can also provide training
and consulting for a fee.
Will I be able to create a
user interface easily?
That is the intent.
Will it work with both Flash and Gnash players?
Currently qualified platforms are the Flash Player 8, 9, and 10
Actionscript runtimes, and IE7, Firefox 3, and Safari 4 Javascript
runtimes.
The Gnash folks contacted us a while back to try to get our
Actionscript 2 (Flash Player 8) binaries running on their emulator. I
don't know the current state of that effort; you would have to contact
them.
How would it interact with the data acquisition box (which currently
uses CGI's wirtten in C)?
Presumably the sam way your current web service does. OpenLaszlo
supports data binding using JSON.
Any thoughts that I may have missed?
