We know that the grid component is pretty heavy-weight and would welcome any contributions toward trimming it down! I am sure I have seen traffic on the list from others with similar issues. It would seem like a great opportunity for the community to collaborate. I haven't personally had any time to look at it (I'm usually stuck deep in compiler internals), but I'd be happy to answer questions and make comments.
