I've just had gs 5.00 installed on my PC (OS = Linux RedHat 5.0).
However `make install' failed to also install the text fonts in the
correct directory ... they were there but not where gs could find
them. This meant that whenever a PS file had just picture data
(no text fonts) gs was quite happy to display the image, but
whenever there were text fonts an error was generated before
displaying the image without text. When LaTeX2HTML was run over the
document using these PS files all the PS files without text fonts
were translated to GIFs just fine ... but all the GIFs for those
PS files with text were missing. So ...

  1. Do the PS files for which GIFs are not generated have text fonts?

  2. If so ... check that your gs has the text fonts in the correct
directory. We worked out where to put the fonts by looking at
where they were put for gs 3.33 (the version that came with our
     Linux).

  Hope that helps.
