latex2html: dvips

Hi folks,

i have probably a very classical problem, but i didn't manage to 
solve it, even with the archives...

dvips refuse to find any figure:

dvips: Couldn't find figure /home/tang/Mie/compos.eps

and that produces a 

ppmtogif: EOF / read error reading magic number

i don't have any dot in any file name (which, as I understood,
can perturbate dvips), and I use a simple
dvips -S 1 -i -M -o ......
or even a
dvips -E -S -i -M -o ....

please, please, please, could you help.
