latex2html: \textless, etc.

I am using latex2html V98.1p1 and have the following problem:

In my small Latex document I use the symbols "\textless" and "\textgreater"
for enclosing email-addresses. If I run latex2html on this document it
complains:

Unkown commands: textless textgreater

and in the HTML output the "&lt" and "&gt" are omitted which of course does 
not look good.

How can I handle this?
Can I extend latex2html on my own (I've seen the "styles" subdirectory but
not sure how to do this)?
