Yes, OK.
That would bring the LaTeX back to normal size,
rather than the magnified size required for making slides.

To keep just a single source, load   \usepackage{html}
and use the conditional environments

 %begin{latexonly}
 ...
 %end{latexonly}

to delimit commands meant only for LaTeX, and

 \begin{htmlonly}
 ...
 \end{htmlonly}

for those meant only for LaTeX2HTML.


For the record, the alternative --- which worked for Robert Donahue
is to increase the paper size used by dvips; e.g.   $PAPERSIZE = 'a4';
The default is 'a5' to limit the size of images of complete
math-displays that include equation-numbering.


Of course with the $FIGURE_SCALE_FACTOR operating as well,
your resulting images will be rather large...
...too much for on-screen display, I suspect.

Your own solution concerning the \slidesmag
is surely the best for your situation.
