We are using LaTeX2HTML Version 96.1-h, but would like to shift to a newer
version like LaTeX2HTML Version 98.1p1.

Unfortunately the new version appears to translate bibitems in the
thebibliography incorrectly: end of lines before the first \newblock are
translated into <p> as the following minimal example shows:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{html}

\begin{document}
\begin{thebibliography}{RS-98-22}

\bibitem[RS-98-22]{BRICS-RS-98-22}
\htmladdnormallink{{\bf Abstract}}{http://www.brics.dk/RS/98/22/}\\
Gian~Luca Cattani, John Power, and Glynn
  Winskel.
\newblock {\em A Categorical Axiomatics for Bisimulation}.
\end{thebibliography}
\end{document}

The result with 98.1p1 looks like

RS-98-22
       Abstract
       Gian Luca Cattani, John Power, and Glynn

       Winskel.
       A Categorical Axiomatics for Bisimulation.

whereas 96.1-h yields the correct:

RS-98-22
       Abstract
       Gian Luca Cattani, John Power, and Glynn Winskel. A Categorical
       Axiomatics for Bisimulation.

Does anybody know a workaround? Is this unfortunate "feature" likely to
disappear in the next release?

Any help is most appreciated.

I should say that the problem also appears with two links and no \\. But
is is OK with just one link and no \\. The result of the translations can
be view at http://www.brics.dk/~engberg/bibtest/

Kind regards,

/uffe
