This works perfectly when I use the command line and outputs to a 
ppmfile. 
In fact the problem is .... norton antivirus which inhibits the 
globbing. I have desactivated it and everything works ok!

I have just remenbered that I have had a similar problem with MacAfee 

and it was my reason of switching to norton :-(

There seems to be an incompatibility between PERL globbing and anti-
virus software under win98 (everything was ok under win95 with the 
same configuration)!

So beware of viruses but also anti-viruses!
