Hi there

Ross> This seems to be a similar request to one made recently, for
    Ross> a command \htmladdTOCentry {<heading>}{<URL>}

Ross> The intent seems to be to make a (set of) HTML pages appear
Ross> as if they are part of another document.

Ross> Is this what you want Uli ?

you read my mind Ross ;-)

Ross> This would mean that any section-numbering or
Ross> equation-numbering in the *foreign* section could be
Ross> out-of-sequence with the main document. However this may
Ross> not be relevant in some documents.

Yup, but how many people use section numbering in the html-code?
However, this poses some interesting implications for setting up the
next-previous-up-icons. At least in a framed environment, the calling
document could provide a suitable frameset which references the correct
table of content as well as the right file, while retaining the local
icon-bar. Hmmh, this opens up a whole lot of possibilities, for
context sensitive navigating of linked documents. But I should say
that this was not the idea in the beginning....

Ross> Certainly it would be a usefull command for the interweaving
Ross> of Web documents, where there need not be a meaningful LaTeX
    Ross> version.

definetly true. BTW interweaving: If one uses the new frame features,
one needs a way to define the TARGET parameter for all $EXTERNAL_lINK
variables set in the ini-files. Otherwise one ends up fixing "main" to
"_top" all day long.

Ross> What about cross-references ? Part of the expansion of
Ross> \htmladdTOCentry could be to do an \externalref{<URL>} to
Ross> load any file labels.pl at the remote site. Maybe that's
Ross> not advisable; leave it up to the author to include this
    Ross> explicitly, if desired ?

sounds fascinating -- distributed living documents.....

        Cheers

                Uli
