One very useful feature of latex2html is that when it inserts
graphics, it sets the alternative text to the underlying TeX
expression. However, for long expressions, it apparently
abbreviates them, including the beginning and end, but putting dots
in the middle. Would it be possible to have a command line switch
that would instruct latex2html to include the entire expression and
not abbreviate?
The cases when this is done are usually, though not necessarily always,
connected with mathematical expressions.
In this case, you should have a look at the .html source.
You should find in there a corresponding comment that
includes the complete LaTeX source that was used to generate
the mathematics displayed within the image.
The comment is something like:
<!-- MATH: ... TeX source .... -->
If your aim is to be able to extract the LaTeX source for the image,
then this is the place to look for it.
If you have something else in mind, then please say what that is.
Be aware that many browsers do not use more than a single line
for the alternative text, so there is an effective limit on it.
Hope this helps,
Ross Moore
