Right. I wasn't saying that "Debugging" is the nwe place for everything that might have gone on the Tips and Tricks page. I was saying that "Debugging" is the right place for *this* particular tip, and that other tips/tricks might go to other places. > So I really see this page as a collection of many of the little things > we've discovered that makes Life With Launchpad easier, but which > aren't essential to hacking on it, and may not even be of interest or > appropriate for everyone on every platform. > > Can we come up with a better name than "Debugging" given that intent? See above, and my previous mail. "Debugging" is *not* the new name for the "Tips and Tricks" page. What I'm saying is that a "Tips and Tricks" page is a seductive but ultimately nugatory idea, and that the more useful (but harder) thing to do is find topic-appropriate places in the wiki for each individual tip/trick as it comes up. For example, we already have an EmacsTips page. (Plus, I got to use the word "nugatory". It's gonna be a fine day.) > As an aside, I think that structure is fine for new people, but it's > not as useful (and perhaps detrimental) to experienced developers. > It's like the difference between a tutorial and a reference manual. > When I know what page I'm looking for, I really don't want to be > distracted by having to work the path backward to remember where to > start my hunt. Let's get them into the wiki! +1 on getting them into the wiki, one way or another. -K _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~launchpad-dev Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~launchpad-dev More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
