Similar thing on mine as well. Though, full 'make checks' took only 8h30m on mine :) Doing individual test runs (eg. establishing a librarian layer takes around 15 seconds) is a bit annoying for regular development, so I backed off and got a proper laptop. Not to mention 'make schema' which took ages when I last tried it.
