Seems that utilities/ec2 is more than a little broken right now. I've
documented what I hope is a good workaround:
Using a virtualenv to access the ec2 tools
https://dev.launchpad.net/EC2Test/WithVirtualEnv
It takes a little while to set up, but should, hopefully, work until
Launchpad is running on Python 2.5 or later, or until someone figures
out how to make buildout set things up appropriately for devscripts...
In fact, Gary said this was possible now, so hopefully this workaround
will be very short lived.
/me goes to try and figure it out.
