If you're on Oneiric and blocked by this sort of thing, I recommend setting up a schroot per <https://dev.launchpad.net/Running/Schroot>. It takes about 10 minutes and you can keep using your existing checkouts and working trees, just using the programs from an earlier Ubuntu release.
I just typed $ schroot -c lp0 $ ./bin/test ... and was running again.
