I don't know about your particular bug, but I did see two spurious timing-related failures yesterday (pad.lv/882370 and pad.lv/882324) which made me suspect there was something about AWS perhaps in the vm layer that made them more likely to trap recently. Perhaps the machine performance is uneven. This is only speculation, sorry if it doesn't help much or is irrelevant to your failure.
