Launchpad is a complex web application the interface of which does not yet fully explain how to use it. Importantly, the UI does not describe how to bring Launchpad into your project's workflow.
It's true that the web interface can do a better job of explaining how to use LP and, indeed, what is possible with Launchpad. However, it doesn't do what it needs right now. We have a Launchpad user guide, it is at https://help.launchpad.net and offers an introduction to each part of Launchpad. I'll echo Matthew's request to report bugs if there are parts of Launchpad that are not well explained.
