Thanks Ben, that was helpfull. Even though the document 'is under review' the site returned revelant results. This link I found quite helpfull http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/babfa77e23 360a7d86256b61006e6f6e?OpenDocument It gives a little insite on how to decipher Labview data types, bacisly the same a flattening. I can reconize the Occurence type by this method. But, a Generate occurrence type is not the same as a Occurence RefNum control. Even though the type descriptors are the same! (odd, I just discovered this) Hopefully Appnote 154 gets updated. Wait I googled for it and here is an April-03 rev of it! http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/2d17d611efb58b22862567a9006ffe76/370 dfc6fd19b318c86256a33006bfb78/$FILE/an154b.pdf Cheers Cheers
