once I (ab)used a free input from a fp-quad encoder for such a fluid sensor. wire your output to CHannel A and delayed by a RC (4.7k an 10nF if I remember right) to Channel B. gives you a 32bit counter and flow rate. just divide the counterchannel by 4*pulses/l to get liter
