getting last saved values

In my application I obtain 1 set of values by pressing a button.
Another portion of the program uses these values to perform an action.
Now if I stop the program and rerun it then these values become
default values.But I want to use the last saved values each time I run
the vi. How can i do this?. Is the only way to do it by saving in a
file or is there anyother way
