I've used IOnetworks' Edgeport devices with great success. http://www.ionetworks.com/products/edgeport.html The only real problem I had was that the USB connector going in to one of my Edgeports was a little loose, and if it was jiggled the device could disappear from Windows which would hang my LV application. I think that was probably a one-off rather than a design flaw, as another Edgeport didn't have this problem. The other thing to watch for is that by default, VISA maps devices ASRL10::INSTR through ASRL13::INSTR to parallel ports, so you may need to remove these assignments in MAX before you can use all your additional serial ports.
