Hi,
You, the programmer, is in charge for what data type to use. Look in the functions
palette at *Advanced* and then *Data Manipulation* there you will find a blue icon
*variant*. In that palette, among other variant related things, you will find the
'Variant to data' function. You may wire in most any data type to convert to.
Hope this helps a bit...........

Subject: Variant from COM interface

I'm controlling an external program using ActiveX and a com interface. One
of the properties returns a variant. I don't know what data type it will
translate to and I'm not sure how to find out. Can some one help me out?
I'm new to variants but have been using LabVIEW (6.02) for the last 3 years.
What am I not seeing?

Thanks
