Hello Doctor,

Perhaps it's the body function being disrupted that precipitates the
dream.  I've also had dreams where an outside factor like an alarm clock
going off becomes a part of the dream.

I remember times when I've dreamt that I had gotten up, showered, shaved
and gotten dressed to go to work, only to wake up and realize I hadn't
even gotten out of bed. :)

And then there is that dream of having to go to the bathroom very badly
and not being able to find a rest room.  Of course, the reason I can't
find a rest room is because the brain is protecting me from an
embarrassing situation. <G>
