The default is GTK1 I think but I always recompile it.
Carbon begins to be really working.

Personaly, I have never used Fink but MacPorts.
But you will have to make a symbolic link from /sw to /opt
In the same way if you use the terminal you can make a "sudo port  
install binutils" right before.
