This is no problem as long you don't enter characters in edit widgets where the codepoint doesn't fit into the Unicode basic multilingual plane, nothing which will happen soon I assume... liuzg, our Chinese user, reported no Unicode issues since a long time. For other routines (filename handling and the like) surrogate characters can be handled like like normal characters without problems. Although I doubt the usefulness of filenames with codepoints > BMP.
