There appears to be far less difference in performance between a networked and local X session when 0.9.24/2.2.0 is used. I've now got an Ethereal/Wireshark monitor running and can see around ten messages per second to a remote 0.9.24 gtk2 IDE. I might be wrong here and there might be cases where traffic increases, but so far I see nothing out of the ordinary. I'll continue tinkering with this in case I can spot anything obvious.
