Which version of Lazarus and FPC are you using?
Just ran a quick test with:
Lazarus 1.4.4 + FPC 2.6.4
Lazarus 1.6.1 + FPC 3.0.0
No issues, even if the key is down for 2 minutes.
Provide more details and a complete example project, otherwise it seems
that you may have a problem elsewhere in your code.
