It (Masquerade BBS) *NOW* no longer uses TP code. Back in the 1990s he was using Borland Delphi (version?). Please visit the website, and at least look at it. :)) >>> http://www.masqueradebbs.com/ -- Masquerade BBS. What I was trying to say, there are many *Excellent* FOSS BBS projects, often using Delphi or even with Lazarus. ;-))) Why reinvent the wheel? See how other people have done it! :) > > --- On Mon, 3/15/10, Peter Williams <[email protected]> wrote: > >> From: Peter Williams <[email protected]> >> Subject: Re: [Lazarus] help with bulletin board software... >> To: "Lazarus mailing list" <[email protected]> >> Date: Monday, March 15, 2010, 12:42 AM >> G'day Dennis, >> <snip> >> The >> main features of Masquerade BBS software were the >> configuration >> scripts to be make it look however you wanted it to look. >> *GRIN* -- >> very clever!!! >> Again, the different BBS's were programmed in different languages. Often times, when a developer was updated his/here code to a new version, s/he would consider using different comms libraries / techniques :-O!!! Rewriting comms procedures / units (etc) to use the latest STUFF (whatever you want to call them) *MAY* be a Good Thing! ;-) { I'm not an expert, however, I did work for the Aussie RAN (Navy) for 23 years - as a technical Draftsman, documenting Naval Comms Systems (and more general RAN Systems, etc). I also worked for the software cell which wrote & gave software support -- for R.A.N. Comms Systems for sending messages between Ships/Submarines/Naval Bases/and the rest of the World & Outer Space, e.g. Satelittes/Radios/YOU NAME IT! etc etc. It was very excellent software! And our Directorate wrote the software and the Standards & Specifications for it and more general Systems for the RAN. The RAN has been using different implementations of the same/other software for more that 30-40 years. I became MATES with lots of them. It was written in Turbo Pascal 3, 4, 5, 5.5, 6.0 then ported to different languages. Manly ADA for OS/2. Also C/C++/C# etc - then different Systems. } <snip> >> http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=Bulletin+Board+Software&search=Search >> >> Look for Delphi Open Source (FOSS) packages.
