again... (I then switched to the open source driver pretty fast ^^)

Ah, I also fell into that trap with Ubuntu 8.04 auto updates. I had to revert to an older kernel on my laptop to get my ATI drivers working again. The open source Radeon driver isn't really as fast as the proprietary driver, so I had no choice.
