Ok, that is a new one (for me), but at least the DEVICEID:VENDORID
approach will continue to work if you plug the device into a different
port.
Yes, but I don't know what would happen if you had multiple devices with
the same identifier. The example I've used is for a Velleman K8055 board
where the ID is set by jumper, but this is fairly unusual.
