If the translation is good, I prefer the native language, although i really do not have any problems in English. An important point is that reaching hobby programmers and pupils, which are not yet fluent in English. The Windows/Delphi combo is still very common in teaching IT at school. There may not be that many Linux based pupils, but Mac OS X is not that uncommon. Both benefit a lot from Lazarus in their native language. As pointed out before from others, selecting the language during installation is how it should be plus an easy change of settings through preferences. I would vote for the native language as a default, because everyone will be able to change from the native language to English, but not necessarily the other way round. Although the programming language constructs are obviously based on their meaning in English, it happens that people, who do not speak English, simply learn the programming language constructs and maybe notice later the use in English. The localization of the scripting language in Excel is one of the silliest and most annoying things, i ever encountered. > Therefore I would vote for english as default too. This assumes that a translator is also a programmer, which must not be the case. For core developers this is definitely true, but i assume they are all aware of it. However, for newbies starting as a translator has the actual advantage of a low barrier into the project. So, he/she gets at least involved, can stay there or make the way into coding. It depends too much on individuals and what they want and are able to do. Such general priorities should only be postulated as preferred, but never put up as fixed policy.
