In the past other development environments (or even commercial apps. like some POS) create a "subst'ed" drive to run the software, so in the "start" it subst to a new drive letter, and move execution to that drive.

With XP and upper a hardlink to "X:\Lazarus" from "Program Files" could be created on installation.
