It also called SysUtils.ExpandUncFilename().
Your bugreport says that it also translated C:\Windows\..\ into C:\.
This is done by ExpandFilenameUtf8 (which indead has it's own
implementation in LazFileUtils unit and calls ResolveDots which
actually does that job).
So, your memory serves you wrong I guess.
