I was also going to encourage the people who find this important to make a project of it. Crate a wiki/web page, post the ideas, a road map with milestones, etc. Then go with the action. Managed as a side project will bring more results than only posting in the mailling list.
Look at the mozilla project, they had a bunch of people only working on a side project for marketing. They had their own visibility and the had quite success, I would believe, by the results they had. (spreadfirefox.com I believe). Best regards.
