There is a VERY important fact you must be aware of:
The number of Free Pascal and Lazarus developers is VERY SMALL.
What is more, this is a HOBBY, not their source of income.
(Although probably some of us would like it to be so.)
Speak for yourself!
I speak for the FPC core team. For each of them it is their hobby.
I don't know about the Lazarus core team.
Right! I misread it as that you meant the Lazarus users...
Marketing implies an outflow of
cash... PR doesn't necessarily. The other thing to be aware of is that the
more we get into the limelight, the more Borland (Inprise, what's the name of
the week?) will start breathing down our necks looking for patent/copyright
violations. The core developers better be prepared for that.
We have always been.
We don't copy any source of Borland, this is a rule.
And Borland should not try to fight us;
We're a partner: we help in keeping Object Pascal alive;
Something they should consider carefully...
True, but my point being that some companies make strange decisions when
their backs are against the wall. Look at SCO. Heck, even look at
Microsoft! I'm terrified of porting CBT to Windows for fear Microsoft
will try to say I violated some patent of theirs covered by MS Money or
something. I know, it's not logical, but then again neither is software
patent law.
