I can not see how compiled language could be compared to a byte code 
language... 

Anyway, every language have it's own good and bad things. I myself use Pascal
because I really enjoy using the language, and I don't see it so obsolete as
many others do. Some implementation with Pascal does not exists on any other
language out there, and usually because Pascal give you different approach in
programming then many other languages.

I'm also a Perl developer, and I really love the language, but I will not dream
to use the language for havy programming, such interfaces, games or customer
based programs. I will use Perl for CGI programming, or *nix based programming
that requires system/minimal code to make all the work you need.

I don't think that anyone can really answer "why to use this language" in a very
objective prespective... So I think we should ask why not :)
