What is your operating system? Maybe Lazarus has issues with one of the nt series...
I have a new test for you. Why don´t you make a console application?? If not even console apps work then things are reeeally bad and if you can get console apps running you can play a little. I think you must write {$APPTYPE CONSOLE} or something like that. Are you familiar with Delphi? You can make output on the console app with the same functions: writeln and readln
Also that post you linked seams to talk about lazarus on Freebsd (am I wrong??). So you have both OSes? What went wrong on FreeBSD?? What you discribed here is for windows right?
