Maybe :-) It seems incredibly slow compared to D6 at compiling

Yes, it´s very slow at linking on Windows, on linux the linking speed is good, but the programs it produces are very fast =) So I just get happy by my customers.

Also is there any serial port component available? I have been
using Cport with D6.

I don´t know if it fits your needs for the serial port because I only tested it on a ISA Card, but I wrote a tutorial about multiplatform programs that access the hardware using Lazarus. It worked flawlessly on varios Linux distros, Windows 9x, NT, XP... etc

You can find it here: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/Hardware_Access

If you find any differences on the way I am accessing the hardware and the way needed to make serial communication you can help writing the article as it´s in a wiki =) But I think it will work.
