Lazarus uses gtk1.2 by default. Sometimes the package is called gtk+-1.2
and other's just called gtk-1.2, it depends on the distro. You will also
need to install the gtk-dev packages or you'll get errors like: Error
while linking -lgtk not found, or similar. Note that packages named
gtk2* are not the ones you need.
