Talking about killer apps and reusing older stuff:
There is a project named "BestOffice" by people mostly fraom brazil on
sourceforge. Seems to be Delphi only, GPL and mostly frozen since 2003.
Since it has a text processor it must have some sort of font rendering
engine...
