I just finished installing Lazarus on my Debian Sarge system and thought of giving some feedback. I hope this will be added to the installation documentation to ease the way for the new users. As there is no .deb package for Lazarus, I downloaded the Lazarus 0.9.12 Zipped <http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89339&package_id=93718&release_id=390703> from links from the main Lazarus page at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89339&package_id=93718&release_id=390703, which has two files, fpc-2.0.2.i386-linux.tar <http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/lazarus/fpc-2.0.2.i386-linux.tar?download> and lazarus-0.9.12-0.tar.gz <http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/lazarus/lazarus-0.9.12-0.tar.gz?download> . while I installed them in /opt/fpc and /opt/lazarus respectively. I had a problem that the ppc386 was not in the path and added the following to ~/.bashrc
PATH=$PATH:/opt/fpc/bin
export PATH
Then I added the following to ~/.bash_profile
source ~/.bashrc
I had to apt-get a package the compile complained about -I forgot the name, sorry- and the compilation then went smoothly. Then, when starting Lazarus, it complained about fpc sources, which where not in the package neither linked to from the download page. I found it @ http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2174&package_id=54347&release_id=377243 thanks to good people at the irc channel.
Now I am ready to learn as I develop :-)
That is all from me :-)
oh.. and thank you for the great program
