It can make the sales lower or the sales higher. In my case I was going to 
maybe buy Kylix
a year ago to try. FPC was good enough for my linux needs. So Borland lost a 
sale.

On the other hand, many FPC users have a copy of Delphi - which means that 
possibly the
more FPC users, the more delphi sales. However, if FPC is good enough - it will 
in fact
decrease sales of Delphi. As long as FPC team keeps up their attitude that FPC 
is "just a
hobby" FPC will never decrease the Delphi sales. If people start using FPC more 
seriously
and not "just a hobby" it will in fact decrease Delphi sales. Now that there is 
no Kylix
left at this time, FPC fills that void and does not affect sales in the Linux 
arena of
Borland, since Borland currently has no linux arena.
