Please fill in a mantis bug report for it. I saw this problem few days ago too. Seems to be another WinXP "feature". Under Win2000 the menu items are painted correctly.

If so, then I believe it is a problem with the translation files.
Lazarus might differ, but the normal way of doing it, is that the
person doing the transation, needs to select the correct characters in
the translated language to become keyboard shortcuts, and not just
default to the first letter or the same character number as in the
English langauge.

This seem to be a common problem with translated applications.
