It´s not that Lazarus cannot do it. It is possible, but not implemented.
Starting with the Handle property of Forms you should be able to use
the necessary Gtk and/or XLib function to do what you want.
Each widgetset will require a different code, so a component for this
would be adequate, perhaps with a similar structure to TTrayIcon
Of course another solution is to just use FPC+SDL, but then using
Lazarus Forms will be very hard.
