I work with both, so I got good things from both sides. :)

And I work with both products as well.  The key advantage of Lazarus
is that you can use Free Pascal to support Linux and native WinCE
applications. That's why I'm trying to get Indy to support both.
Borland Delphi is much nicer for Win32 applications.  They complement
each other.

We never tried to replace delphi but fill the gaps delphi leaves so your conclusion is right :)
