Well I have installed everything I could find with 'GTK' or 'GDK' in it,
recompiled Lazarus and got the same linker error.
I also tried the simplest pascal I could find and got :
Target OS: Linux for i386
Compiling hello.pp
Fatal: Can't find unit Interfaces
Fatal: Compilation aborted
So you've downloaded and installed fpc, plus fpc source. downloaded and
compiled lazarus from source but lazarus can't compile any programs?
If you were able to compile lazarus from the command line, then lazarus
should be able to build programs. Try deleting your $HOME/.lazarus
directory, and then run lazarus. (Note the "." in front of the directory
name)

No,No,No!! I can't even get Lazarus to compile! That's why I was trying
good old 'Hello World' the most basic program possible but even that
won't go.
I am sure I have a FreePascal problem, not a lazarus problem. I simply
cannot get fpc to work at all even after unpacking it several times,
doing the install bit over and over again, I have finally got fpc.cfg in
the right place I think but stii lothing works!!
