Delphi jobs aren't scarce, companies just dont like admitting they are
using "sissy" languages. With all the buzz being Java and .NET, most of my
clients won't admit they are still using Cobol or C++ for their projects.
Fact is, I'm learning Object Pascal (Lazarus) to convert Java applications
to native applications, all for Windows-based PC's. Why ? Because the
clients have started to run into problems, especially with constant compiler
and language upgrades that makes very expensive libraries obsolete and
breaks previously written code.
Right now there's a number of companies switching to Delphi (Object Pascal
?) in order to get things done, right here in South Africa. One example -
Quidity CC who makes records and archive management software for
government-level institutions is using Delphi for it's main development
projects. This includes heavy OCR, GIS and document storage and retrieval
systems.
Blah to .NET. Investing money in Object Pascal codes makes more sense, and
I agree with Graeme - native applications are just way better that infinite
layers to get through.
My two cents.
