What you need to do is add the path to the folder containing the units to the 
compiler options.

>From the Lazarus Editor....

Click

Project...
Compiler Options...
Click "..." Button on "Other Unit Files (-FU)
Click "Browse" (Select Folder)
Click OK
Rebuild Project

I finally tried moving external units into project΄s folder and it is
compiled. Anyway, I cannot explain this behavior, plus it is
inconvenience keeping copies of same common units. Any ideas would be
most appreciated.
