Technically there should be flickering, but I don't see it. Can you give
an example?

I don't know how else to give an example, other that explain what I
do, so here goes.

If I compile a project that generates lines in the Messages Windows -
something like Run -> Build All. After it finished compiling I
normally have lines than scroll off the Messages Window. Both
horizontal and vertical scrollbars are visible. Scrolling that window
horizontally the whole windows flickers. The typical thing you see
when redrawing the same image over and over. Scrolling vertically I
don't see that effect, but that could be due to every line moving up a
few pixels as I scroll and masks the effect.

Oh, and that brings me to another new bug with 'User Defined' lines in
the messages window. Scrolling horizontally, they don't move, yet
lines around them do. Also notice the black text to the left of the
'user defined' lines. Doesn't that also mean it paints in black, then
paints in color (red, green, blue). Double painting - which might
again contribute to the flicker under GTK1.

I'll test the flicker issue under a Windows XP computer and let you
know what I find.
