And for the svn-impaired (like me): to "update" to the 2.2 branch run
"svn switch http://svn.freepascal.org/svn/fpc/branches/fixes_2_2"; in
the root of your local copy ;-)

Subject: [fpc-devel] New branch
Hello,

We have created a FIXES_2_2 branch in svn which will be used to
finalize 2.2. The version number of trunk has been changed to 2.3.1
and will be used for new development.

So unless you need any of the new features in trunk, we'd advise to
use the FIXES_2_2 branch instead. FWIW, the mean new features in
trunk are:

* darwin/ppc64 support
* support for enumeration types in read/write/str/val
* support for optional overflow and rangecheck boolean parameters for
operators
* a few new optimizations
