I'm running ubuntu 7.4 now. fpc 2.1.4 is ok, but I'm programming for
commercial users and I need very stable stuff for do this - and I
discovered that fpc 2.1.1 rev 5191 is for me for now best choice. It run
ok and without mem leaks...

You may try download only src and packages maps.

Lazarus 0.9.22 has one thing with wich you may not be very happy...
grids are messed up on latest linux releases - on other hand latest
lazarus has fix for it (gtk2 version check)...
